🚘 Travel guide: Morecambe (Saturday, August 11)

All you need to know ahead of trip to the Globe Arena

10 August 2018

GLOBE ARENA (LA4 4TB)

The Globe Arena was opened in 2010 after Morecambe had spent 89 years at Christie Park.

BY ROAD

Follow the M5 and M6 to A683 in Lancashire. Exit the M6 at junction 34 and follow the signs for Morecambe. After around five miles you will reach a crossroads (with a McDonalds over on the right) where you turn right onto the Morecambe Road.

You will then reach a roundabout, (where there is a Toby Carvery) where you take the first exit into Westgate Road (signposted West Promenade, Sandylands). Continue along this road for about one mile and you will reach the stadium on your right.

BY RAIL

A journey from Exeter St David’s to Morecambe would take around five and a half hours and would require at least two changes, at Birmingham New Street and Lancaster.

Morecambe railway station is around a 25 to 30-minute walk away from the Globe Arena.

As you come out of the railway station turn left down Central Drive past Frankie and Benny's, a Morrisons superstore and a KFC outlet and you will reach the seafront.

Turn left along the promenade passing the Ranch House pub on your left and then take the fifth left into Regent Road. Proceed straight up Regent Road and continue along into Westgate.

You will reach the stadium on your left-hand side, just over the railway bridge. If you would prefer not to walk, you can take a bus from the bus stop opposite Frankie and Benny’s or the nearby bus station which will drop you off outside the stadium and take around 10 minutes.

The timetable for these buses can be viewed on the Stagecoach website. The 8:23am train from Exeter St Davids, changing at Birmingham New Street and Lancaster, would get you to Morecambe for 2:01pm on Saturday, August 11.

PARKING

Parking can be found near the ground at the Marston’s pub for £10, which can be refunded with the purchase of food. The Regent Leisure Holiday Park offers parking for £3 per vehicle. Apart from that, there is street parking.

TICKETS

Exeter City will not be selling tickets for our match away at Morecambe on August 11 in advance. Morecambe have advised they are happy to accommodate all sales for travelling supporters on the day, which is the same process as last season, and as such we won't be selling advance tickets.

Exeter City supporters can pay cash on the gate or pay by card from the ticket office at the ground.

Prices are as follows for the PMG sections A and B (unreserved seating for 570 fans):

  • Adult: £21
  • Concessions (over 65): £17
  • Young adults (18-22): £15
  • Junior (under-18s): £6
  • Under-11s: One free with each paying adult or concession

Adult disabled supporters are admitted at concession rate and other ages for their relevant category with a carer admitted for free. There is a wheelchair bay in front of B block with the away fans.

Fans can pay with cash on the turnstile or from the shop and ticket office with cash or card.

Valid ID must be shown for all concessionary tickets.

PUBS/FOOD:

Just outside the ground is a Marston’s pub that serves food and drinks. Also, the Regent Leisure Holiday Park serves food and drinks with Sky Sports on a large screen.

If you have time, it is also a good bet to take a 15-minute walk down to the seafront. With the entrance to the stadium behind you turn right and it is then a straight road up to the promenade.

On reaching the seafront, where there are some great views across Morecambe Bay, turn right and you will reach a few more bars, including Davy Jones Locker in the basement of the Clarendon Hotel, as well as a cafe, for those feeling hungry.

TOTAL DISTANCE

The total distance from St James Park to the Globe Arena is 287 miles which would take around five-and-a-half hours.
