Exeter City Supporters’ Trust is proud to announce it will be supporting the charity, FoodCycle by hosting a one-off fundraising and community meal at St James Park on Sunday, March 8.
FoodCycle is a national charity that combines surplus food, spare kitchen spaces and volunteers to create a three-course meal for people at risk of food poverty and social isolation.
The charity is looking to raise its profile both in Exeter and across the South West and has partnered with the football club to hold a one-off community fundraising meal to engage with the club’s supporters, local residents, potential volunteers and guests.
The event, which will be held in the Supporters’ Trust Suite, from 1pm on Sunday, March 8, and will see volunteers cook and host a three-course meal to around 150 guests using surplus food from Darts Fresh Produce, Darts Farm, Riverford and Lidl, in return for a donation.
Players from Exeter City first team will also be joining the event as part of the hosting team, serving food and chatting to guests so it is a great chance for people to meet and talk to members of the playing squad.
FoodCycle has 42 projects across the country, and money raised from the event will help support these, including one at the Wonford Community Learning Centre in Exeter and the soon to be launched project at The Mint Church in Fore Street, Exeter.
Speaking about the support from Exeter City Supporters’ Trust, and the benefits of this one-off event, FoodCycle South West’s coordinator Alex Hatherly, said: “It will be really nice to increase our awareness in Exeter so we can serve more guests and prepare more meals for people in need.
“Being able to combine people’s love of football, with people’s love of food will, hopefully, help to get FoodCycle’s name out there as well as raising some money to support the local projects.”
Speaking about supporting this event, Exeter City Supporters’ Trust Trustee Elaine Davis said: “FoodCycle do tremendous work around the South West and the whole of the country and we are delighted to support the charity.
“Exeter City Football Club, City Community Trust and Exeter City Supporters’ Trust, all play an important role in our community and I am sure our fans will, like other community initiatives we have run, support this event.”
Tickets for the event are free but guests are asked to make a small donation, if they can, (suggested amount £3 - £10 per person), which can be made on the day.
