📝 Match Preview: Exeter City Women vs Larkhall Athletic

All you need to know ahead of Sunday's fixture

Exeter City Women will be looking to further progress in the National League Table this weekend, as Larkhall Athletic are the visitors to Speeds Meadow on Sunday (2pm KO)

With a curtailed 2020/2021 Season, Larkhall, like many Clubs in the National League, have had a high turnover of their squad in the summer months. Mia Sparks, Nellie Bullock and Emily Plumber were all recruited from Keynsham Town, whilst Lucy Withey became one of a number of former AEK Boco players to recently join the Larkhall Squad. Kayleigh Hateley and Chloe Rogers, both who have had previous spells with Cheltenham Town, signed late in the summer months, as Manager James Goddard sought to build a competitive group for the season ahead. Kate Bowden is an addition that will be familiar to one member of the City Squad in particular, both Bowden and City Midfielder Anthea Kaptein represent the Armed Forces Football Team alongside their roles with the Royal Navy.

The Larks got their season off to the best possible start, two goals from Rose Kent helping them to a 3-1 Victory at Buckland on the opening day. Since then, life has been tougher for the Somerset side. Home defeats by Portishead (0-1) and AFC Bournemouth (0-6) have been followed by defeats on the road to Cheltenham (0-3) and Southampton Women (1-3.) James Goddard's side will travel to Devon looking to arrest a slide of four straight defeats.

It was an entertaing pre Christmas fixture the last time these sides met, Larkhall racing into a two goal lead, as City were reduced to ten players with the sending off of Georgie Barbour-Gresham. Goals from Emily Toogood and a last minute wonder strike from Phoebe Baker rescued a point in what would prove the final fixture before the season was curtailed.

With the two teams sitting above City in the table facing particularly tough away fixtures, Abbie Britton and Aaron Wakley will be hoping their side can repeat the high intensity of Wednesday's victory at Buckland, and mount more pressure on the leading pair.
