📝 City and Mousehole hail successful pre-season meeting

Both Gary Caldwell and Mousehole manager Jake Ash have hailed Tuesday's pre-season meeting as a success for both sides.

City were 8-0 victors at Trungle Parc with the game drawing a crowd of well over 600 - double Mousehole's usual average league attendances, and Caldwell was full of praise for the Cornish outfit.

"This has been a fantastic experience. To get these facilities on top of the welcome we've had here, plus the surface we have been able to play on has been brilliant

"It's a lovely setting for a game of football and Tuesday was a great night. Hopefully this is a relationship we can continue to have going forward because Mousehole are a fantastic club."

Before the game, assistant manager Kevin Nicholson had hinted at the welcome the Grecians would receive 'way out west'.

"It's a club with a lovely set-up and the players will be pleasantly surprised at the nice club house, changing room and the immaculate pitch.

"Mousehole play really good football and that has been their philosophy for a while now. We wanted to help the club out financially by boosting their crowd for the evening, but also they are now somewhere we can look at sending loan players.

"We have taken the step up, so we are trying to implement a slightly different style so it is important that our lads go on loan somewhere that is going to test them, and this would be the perfect place."

As a club, we are grateful to Mousehole manager Ash for his post-match comments, as he spoke of the successes of the friendly.

"In terms of clubs we can aspire to be like - they're miles ahead of us obviously - the way they've conducted themselves from the moment this game was organised, the way they've helped us and the way they've conducted themselves in the game has been an absolute pleasure.

"They are a brilliant football club and there are a lot of things we can take and borrow from them. The culture has always been at Exeter and it has been a pleasure to host them. As an experience, this has been first class.

"There was a great crowd and it was great to see queues to get in. There was a great atmosphere and this was massive for club's like us - it puts us in the spotlight and people know about us and get to know about what we do. We are hugely grateful to Exeter for what they've done for us.

We would like to place on record our thanks and gratitude to everyone at Mousehole for their warm welcome, excellent hospitality, and use of the facilities over the three day trip, and wish them every success for their upcoming season.
