Flynney Signs A New Deal

5 July 2012

Breaking news from the club

Paul Tisdale is backing striker John O’Flynn to get back into the groove after the Irishman signed a new contract with the club this morning.

The 29-year-old former Barnet and Cork striker had a productive first campaign in Devon, scoring seven times as City finished in eighth place, but a knee injury severely hampered his 2011/12 campaign and restricted him to just eight league starts.

And now he’s fully fit and sorted his future with the club, his manager is looking forward to watching O’Flynn make up for lost time.

“John wants to have a better year than he had last year and he wants to do it with us,” Tisdale said.

“I wanted continuity and he’s the right type of player for the next part of our building process and he wanted to stay here which says a lot about him. He didn’t have the most productive year last year based on that injury he had.

“He was affected for most of last season but he’ll come back fully fit and it’s his chance to perform and make up for the lost time last year and our chance to get some value out of a player who I believe can score goals.”

O’Flynn did exactly that during his last two seasons at this level with Barnet, scoring 29 goals in just 63 starts, and his manager is confident he’ll be finding the back of the net once again next season.

“I signed him two years ago knowing what a good goalscorer he was. I’ve seen it in training and I’ve seen him play extremely well in the team two years ago, Tisdale said.

“His goalscoring record at this level is very good, although we’ll play in a different way to how Barnet did.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him get back in the groove – we need him to be in the groove having not seen it for a year,”
