Mr Red’s tips, from Bet Butler

4 January 2013

Another selection of betting tips for the FA Cup weekend

Don’t know about you, but I love the FA Cup.  Those giant killings are a great way to turn a bit of cash into a lot of cash.  You’ve just got to know who to back!

If you’re having a punt this weekend, remember that Bet Butler is the Official Betting Partner of Exeter City, delivering a betting service for City fans that finds you the best available odds from 60 global bookmakers – click here to see what all the fuss is about.  Win or lose, every bet you place benefits the club!  Try and find better odds than these – I bet you can’t.

City aren’t in the Cup this weekend, of course.  But there is a trip to York on the cards.  Exeter’s last trip to Yorkshire wasn’t at all bad – a 1-0 win over Bradford – and you can back City for a fifth straight away win at 9/4.  Given that City have one of the best records on the road this season, and York’s record is nothing to write home about, this could be easy pickings…

But now, onto the FA Cup.  Ah, the magic!  Upsets, giant killings, Lawrie Sanchez and all that.  So what are the good tips this weekend?

Well, Brighton host Newcastle, and both teams are available at 7/4.  I think the better one of those two options is to back the Magpies though – the Seagulls have plenty of chips on their plate as they look to reel in the pack at the top of the Championship, whereas I’m sure Mr Pardew would like to inject a bit of romance back into Newcastle’s floundering season.  They’re not likely to go down, but I think they’ll be doing their best to ensure that ‘not getting relegated’ is not the highlight of their season.

It’s not often you get the opportunity to back a team that have gone 15 games unbeaten at a price of 19/5.  But that’s the reality – you can get Bournemouth at those odds.  The only catch – they’re away to Premier League side Wigan.  Will Martinez’s men be the ones to finally end Eddie Howe’s record?  This could be worth a cheeky little punt on the Cherries, I think – momentum can be everything in football and can often close the divisional gap for a one-off game like this.

And the final FA Cup tip I’ll be giving – Championship leaders Cardiff, away to non-League Macclesfield, at 7/10. That’s right, rub your eyes in disbelief.  To me, this looks like one of those matches where David lines up his slingshot to fire at Goliath, and then promptly gets squashed.  The Bluebirds will be particularly keen to avoid any unnecessary replays too; they’ll be looking to get the job done so that they can look back to their promotion push.

Back to League 2 – Bristol Rovers’ victory over Plymouth can surely only have been a blip?  It got them off the foot of the table, mind you – but I would fancy Gillingham to put them back in the basement at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday.  They had a good away win at Southend, and now they’ll be looking to open up a buffer between themselves and Port Vale, and Evens says they’ll take the three points.

Remember, you can claim £25 to spend at your City when you sign up for Bet Butler.  Simply place five £10 bets at Evens or bigger at exetercity.betbutler.co.uk, then email enquiries@betbutler.co.uk for a voucher valid for tickets and club merchandise!

All odds correct at the time of writing.  Exeter City and Mr Red encourage supporters to bet sensibly and within their means.
