Tis: “Next game always most important”

Paul previews the visit of Southend on Saturday

Ahead of Saturday’s fixture against Southend United, Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale is keeping an objective view of the results and performances of his team so far this season.

While admitting that the scorelines have been far from ideal in front of the home fans at St James Park, Tis explained that perspective has to be an important factor in moving forward.  Sitting a place ahead of the Shrimpers in fifth, the Grecians’ overall performances this season have propelled them into the play-off positions – and the City boss is confident of pushing on with another win this weekend.

“There’s no harm in looking at ways to change some of our preparation,” said Tis.  “But let’s be honest – I’ve been at the club a long time, and for the previous six years we’ve not had a problem like this, and we’ve prepared the same way in those years.

“We have to not get too excited about our away form, and not get too despondent about our home form.  We’ve got to keep some sort of level opinion.

“I think it’s fair to say that our form in the past few games hasn’t been too bad – results is one thing, form is another.  I want to be careful to not be too critical of the way the team has played.

“It obviously hasn’t been good enough, we haven’t given the home supporters at St James Park a lot to be cheerful about and to get behind the team with, but I don’t think the form has been that bad.  Your mind, your opinion and your sentiment can be influenced a lot by the result.

“So my warning to the players is to not to be too excited and pleased with themselves with our away form, because the next game is always the most important.  On the same account, let’s not get too worried about the home results, because the way the players have started in the last couple of games really shows they’ve got the bit between the teeth.”
