Artur the big winner at the Gala Ball

Exeter City’s annual awards ceremony took place at the End of Season Gala Ball last Sunday, with 12 awards being dished out in total for achievements on an off the field.

Supporters’ groups and fans had elected their nominations for those that deserved special recognition, and it gave some individuals a chance to have their moment in the spotlight.

Artur Krysiak got a decent workout on the night as he had to leave his chair on no less than four occasions to go up to the stage to collect his gongs.  He was voted Player of the Year by the East Devon Grecians, the North Devon Grecians, the ExEC-100 Club and was named Most Improved Player by the Exeter City Disabled Supporters Association.

Striker Jamie Cureton also collected a couple of awards – he had been voted as Exeter City’s overall Player of the Year by the fans and had been announced to the crowd after the final home game of the season against Cheltenham, and the official presentation took place at the Ball.  He also collected his Golden Boot Award for an incredible 21-goal haul in the 2012/13 campaign.

The two under-18 players that will be graduating into the first team this summer – Matt Grimes and Christy Pym – both received awards too.  They received the awards for Young Player of the Year from the Supporters’ Trust and the East Devon Grecians respectively.

Tommy Doherty had been awarded the first prize of the night as the Colonel, Ken Saunders, chose him as his stand-out player, while the Norwegian Grecians gave John O’Flynn the Dom Sanders Memorial Tankard for his contributions.  Jeanne and David Jones were given the Alan Memorial Tankard by the ExEC-100 club for all their off-field work which they do so tirelessly for the football club.
