Gavin Ward to oversee Shrimpers fixture
Gavin Ward has been appointed match referee for Saturday’s trip to Roots Hall.
Ward has been refereeing in the Football League since 2007, and though he has not taken in a City game so far this season he has been in charge of the Grecians on numerous occasions in the past.
City have won two, drawn four and lost two of the eight matches in which Ward has refereed, with the most noteworthy being the tense 2-2 draw at home to Morecambe at the end of the promotion-winning 2008/09 season in front of a full house at SJP.
So far this season, Ward has taken charge of 23 games, showing 68 yellow cards and six reds, with the most recent of those being last weekend when he sent off Doncaster striker Billy Sharp in their Championship defeat at Brighton.
Referee: Gavin Ward (Surrey)
Assistant referees: Matthew Bouanassisi (Northamptonshire) & Robert Whitton (Essex)
Fourth official: Gavin Muge (Bedfordshire)
