Ampadu and Smallcombe to represent Young Dragons in tournamentExeter City Academy duo Ethan Ampadu and Max Smallcombe have both been called up to the Wales Under-16 squad to face England Under-16 in their opening game of the Victory Shield.
Max and Ethan were called up to the Welsh Under-16 squad recently, and helped the Young Dragons to back-to-back victories over their French counterparts in two friendly fixtures at Dragon Park, Newport. Ethan also spent a three-day period as part of an England Under-15 training camp at St George’s Park earlier this month.
The squad convene in North Wales on Sunday 26th October for a week of training, ahead of the fixture against the Young Lions on Friday 31st October. The match kicks off at The Book People Stadium at 7pm.
The Victory Shield has been played annually between Under-16 teams from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland since 1946. Wales, who have been outright winners once and shared the title four times, will travel to Scotland and Northern Ireland in November to complete their round-robin of fixtures.
Exeter City Academy Manager Simon Hayward said: “Having watched both the games against France, Ethan and Max both did very well. I’m sure they will be looking forward to the Victory Shield and looking to build on their performances against France.
“Good luck to the two of them – we hope they enjoy the experience and do well.”
