Ex-Grecian midfielder selected in star XIFormer Exeter City midfielder Matt Grimes has been named in the PFA’s League 2 Team of the Year as part of the PFA Awards 2015.
Grimes, who was at the Grecians’ Academy since the age of 10, broke into Exeter’s first team early in the 2013/14 season. Picking up the club’s Player of the Year award in his maiden season, he began the current campaign in impressive form.
He caught the eye of the international selectors and featured three times for Aidy Boothroyd’s England Under-20 squad during his time with Exeter. After 37 appearances and scoring once in his maiden season, Grimes made 25 appearances in 2014/15 for the Grecians and found the net four times – three of which from direct free-kicks.
Matt was sold for a club record fee to Swansea City during the January transfer window, and has since gone on to captain the England Under-20 team and has featured twice to date in the Premier League for the Swans in wins against Hull and Newcastle.
