Manager discusses arrival of defender

Troy Brown was added to Exeter City’s squad list at St James Park when he put pen to paper on Friday, and manager Paul Tisdale was glad to have been able to secure the new arrival.

Defender Brown has lined up against the Grecians in the colours of Ipswich Town, Aldershot and Cheltenham Town during his career to date – including his first ever professional start as the Tractor Boys won 3-2 at the Park in a Capital One Cup game in 2010.

Paul admitted that he had been a long-term admirer of the defender, having seen him in action many times to date.

And in particular Tis acknowledged that the defensive ranks were an area which he had been working hard to address, given the departure of two senior defenders this summer and Jordan Moore-Taylor’s metatarsal injury.

“We have needed to add balance and depth to our whole squad – with Scot Bennett and Pat Baldwin leaving, a central defender is something which we have looked at,” said Paul.  “We have played against him numerous times.

“Troy is a very good age and he has had a lot of football for a 24-year-old.  At his age, there is a chance to develop and bring him through.  For players of his age, they can add to the team and we can add to them.

“It is nice to have the opportunity to sign him.  It is obviously at the cost of him being at a club that got relegated.  Often when a club has a bad time, something crops up – we have always liked him and it has cropped up in the summer with Cheltenham being relegated.

“He is athletic, determined, and hopefully he’ll add a balance to the side in his way.  With Jordan Moore-Taylor being injured, it gave me more of an emphasis on that signing.  It was particularly important for us to sign a defender at this time with Scot and Pat leaving and Jordan being injured.”
