Under-18s: City 12 Cheltenham Town 0

Academy side record a comfortable win to bounce back from opening day defeat

1 September 2017

Exeter City’s under-18s recorded a comprehensive 12-0 victory against Cheltenham Town last Saturday to banish all memories of their disappointing opening day defeat.

After seeing a 2-0 lead slip away against Swindon Town, City bounced back in perfect style with a dominant display and ruthless performance.

From the very beginning, Dan Green’s men were on top form, and after the opening 45 minutes, the score had become 8-0, thanks to goals from Brandon Parsons, Josh Hancock, and braces from Lucas White, Harry Kite and Joe O’Laughlin.

Exeter proved to be a potent force, and punished Town for almost every mistake that they made. And although the Grecians eased off in the second period, a further four goals were converted thanks to Joel Randall, Josh Key, with White grabbing another two.

It means an air of confidence runs through the squad following this one-sided affair, and the Devon youngsters will be hoping to take that good form and positive feeling into their next game, a clash against Bristol Rovers this weekend.

City under-18s coach Dan Green, said: “It was a good performance. There are always things that could be better, but the players didn’t get down after last week’s result, and they’ve bounced back, worked hard, and secured the result.

“Harry Kite and Josh Key were very good in their competitiveness, and it was pleasing to see both of them were rewarded with call-ups to the first-team for the EFL Trophy match on Tuesday.”

“It was a pleasing result, but it was more important to get the good performance. The 12 goals were great, but the whole team performed very well right from start. They set their standards early on, and maintained them throughout the match.

Exeter City under-18s: Felix Norman, Sam Haynes, Jordan Dyer, Josh Hancock, Joe O’Laughlin, Josh Key, Harry Kite, Mitch Thomas, Joel Randall, Lucas White, Brandon Parsons. Subs not used: Josh Williams, James Dodd, Harry Gardner, Jack Arthur, Joe Belston
