📝 Match Preview: Bolton Wanderers (A)

All you need to know for our first ever trip to the University of Bolton Stadium

30 April 2021

Exeter City face one final push for the play-off places as they take on Bolton Wanderers at the University of Bolton Stadium this Saturday.

Wanderers have the opportunity to gain automatic promotion back to League One with a win, but City know that a victory for them would give them hope of securing a play-off place going into the final day showdown with Barrow next weekend.

City secured a much needed 3-2 win against Grimsby Town on Tuesday as Alex Fisher and Ryan Bowman dragged City over the line after trailing 2-1 with ten minutes remaining. That halted a run of three consecutive 0-0 draws and puts the Grecians right back in the mix.

Bolton have had a season of two halves, with their form since the end of January showing just two defeats in 22 matches, including a run of nine wins in ten in February and March. Their last match was a 1-0 win at Morecambe last Saturday which opened up a four point lead on the Shrimps, meaning a win this weekend would secure their pathway back to the third tier.

Matt Taylor's Thoughts

"It's two teams with everything to play for," he said, with City knowing a win would retain hope of a play-off place, while a Bolton victory would secure their promotion to League One.

"We are going into a great environment. We always say it's a game to relish and a game to attack, but come 5pm we don't to have any regrets.

"Bolton recruited strongly in January and their form reflects that. Pressure is an interesting word in football. The expectation is there for them, but we are still fighting and challengeing and I expect us to perform this weekend."

Social Media Boycott

This weekend, in line with the EFL, Premier League, Women's Super League and more, we will be boycotting our social media channels from Friday 3pm until Monday 23.59pm as we #TakeAStand against virulent abuse directed towards players and staff.

The boycott shows English football coming together to emphasise that social media companies must do more to eradicate online hate, while highlighting the importance of educating people in the ongoing fight against discrimination.

As a result, all coverage of this weekend's match at Bolton will take place only on our official website. We will be providing live text commentary via the Live Match Centre and post match interviews with Matt Taylor and the selected player will also be published on our YouTube channel.

Of course, you can still watch the game via iFollow with a match pass. To purchase a match pass please click here.
