📝 Match Preview: Exeter City Women v Swansea City

Final pre-season action for City Women

29 July 2021

This Sunday sees the final preparation game for the 2021/2022 Season as Swansea City Ladies are the visitors to Speeds Meadow.

With three victories out of three from pre season to date, Abbie Britton and Aaron Wakley's side will be keen to maintain their form ahead of the season opener against Poole Town on August 15th.

The Swans will undoubtedly prove the Grecians' biggest test so far. Ian Owen's team are fresh from securing back to back Welsh Premier League titles, with the past season also seeing a League and Cup double. The team head to Devon in preparation for a trip to Cyprus in late August, where they will compete in a Champions League Round One Qualifier against CSKA Moscow.

Swansea will have plenty of key players for the Grecians to keep watch over. Tija Richardson was voted the Player's Player of the Year last season, whereas the South Wales side also have Welsh International Goalkeeper Claire Skinner as part of their talented squad. Stacey John-Davis has a formidable goalscoring record and was the Team's main source of goals in the 2020/2021 Season. Katy Hosford will pose a threat from midfield, she scored twice on the Swan's recent visit to Devon when they beat Torquay United by three goals to one.

City manager Abbie Britton will be familiar to players and supporters of Swansea City, Abbie played for Ian Owen's team during her career and played with many of the players who will line up against her City side on Sunday.

With a week of training and three games behind them, this tough contest will prove the ideal preparation for the kick off of the new season in just two weeks time. With City in fine goalscoring form and quality opposition making their way to Devon, this is sure to be a game not to miss.
