Matt Taylor has given his assessment as The Grecians were beaten 2-1 by Newport County in the Papa Johns Trophy group stage.
Despite taking the lead through Kegs Chauke's first goal for the club, Chanka Zimba and Omar Bogle both found the back of the net to win the game for the away side.
"It was an even game but one poor defensive moment has cost us in the end," Matt said post match.
"We started the second half brighter than the first half - that was only ok. The equaliser took the stuffing out of us, and we ended up chasing the game.
"There were pleasing aspects of the game, we went about the game in the right way but we lacked quality."
