Away from the league, City went one better than their 4-0 half-time lead over Bristol Rovers in August by being 5-0 up at the break against the same opponent in the Papa John's Trophy. The game ended 5-3 in a thriller at the Park.

Back in the league, the Grecians headed to Rochdale in Arctic conditions as snow and wind battered the North-West. George Ray rose highest to score his first goal for the club in a 1-1 draw.

London buses! After that goal, Ray was once again on the scoresheet in a replay of a replay in an FA Cup match against Bradford. Due to substuitution error in the initial replay - which was 3-0 to City - we were ordered the play again, with a 2-1 victory the result this time around.
Ray and the team celebrate his second goal in as many goals as City progressed through to round two to face a Cambridge United away from home.
