📝 Match Preview: Carlisle United (A)

All you need to know about Saturday's trip!

19 August 2023

Exeter City make the mammoth trip to Brunton Park on Saturday to face Carlisle United in a 3pm kick-off in EFL Sky Bet League One.

The Grecians will be looking to bounce back from Tuesday night's narrow defeat against Portsmouth when they take on newly promoted to League One side Carlisle United.

The Cumbrians have adapted well to life back in League One and picked up a point at home to Wigan Athletic in midweek thanks to Owen Moxon's goal.

There have been many classic encounters between the two sides, who can forget the pair of play-off semi-final matches back in 2016/17, or when Padraig Amond popped up to give the Grecians a vital 1-0 win during the promotion season?

A massive thank you to the near 300 legends that will be making that massive journey! Sing loud, sing proud!

Gary Caldwell's Thoughts

Manager Gary Caldwell has shared City's travel plans for the long trip north to Carlisle this weekend.

The Grecians will depart on Thursday and train in the north-west, before continuing further towards Cumbria on Thursday evening ahead of Saturday's match.

By Road

From Exeter take the M5 north all the way up to the M6. Continue along the motorway to the north of the country before leaving the M6 motorway at J43 and take the exit signed Carlisle A69. The blue roof of the Pioneer Foods Stand can be seen on the right-hand side, almost as soon as you leave the roundabout. Keep going straight ahead along Warwick Road (A69) for one mile.

After passing through the third set of traffic lights the club shop (Blues Store) and statue of Hughie McIlmoyle on the right mark the main entrance to the ground for main stand ticket holders, directors, hospitality guests and reserved guest car parking only.

There is parking available for both home and away supporters. Follow the directions above and turn right immediately at the third set of traffic lights. Drive through the blue gates and behind the Pioneer Foods Stand to enter the car park on the right. Fans are charged £5 to park their car.

By Rail

Train travel from Exeter to Carlisle is tricky and takes around 7 hours with a couple changes. You would need to get the 05:49 from Exeter St Davids which gets in at 12:59pm.

It is approximately a one-mile walk from the station to Brunton Park.

There is no return train on the day that gets you back to Exeter, so an overnight stay is needed.

Parking is available next to the away end via Warwick Road or St Aidan's Road. £5 cars, £15 minibus, £20 coach.
