📝 Match Preview: Cheltenham Town (A)

17 March 2023

As the season heads towards its final furlong, the Grecians gallop to Cheltenham this Saturday hoping to pip the Robins to the post to continue their recent upturn in form.

In the week the Cheltenham Festival comes to a close, City's going has been good with seven points from a possible nine over their last three matches, fiddling their fences with a 2-1 win over Lincoln at St James Park the most recent meet.

Cheltenham had also been off the pace until a fortnight ago, when they were 1-0 winners over Fleetwood Town at home, before four more points followed - drawing with Lincoln before they set the pace at Peterborough with a 3-0 win.

Exeter are course specialists at Cheltenham, with just one defeat in their last six outings at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium. When both teams arrive at the post on Saturday, the home side will have painful memories of City's last visit to their home turf, when the Grecians ran out 7-0 winners in the first round of the Carabao Cup back in August.

Gary Caldwell's Thoughts

With both sides having taken seven points from their last three matches, it is set to be an exciting encounter, and Caldwell is not underestimating the threats the hosts pose following their win over Peterborough last weekend.

"Myself and Perks went to their game against Lincoln last week to get a feel for the environment and the team. They're a very well organised side and we have to be prepared for a difficult game," Gary said.

"We have to know our own strengths and impose ourselves on the game, and how we're going to go about winning the game. The players will be 100% ready.

"Alfie May is their main threat and talisman and someone we have to keep quiet if we want to win. They were well organised at Peterborough and a very professional away performance that they deserved to win."
