Vacancy: First Team Sport Scientist

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced First Team Sport Scientist to join our Medical Department on a full-time, permanent basis. 

This role will play a pivotal role in enhancing the Club’s athletic development programme, advancing the sport science model to improve performance, prevent injuries, and support physiotherapists in player rehabilitation.

Role & Responsibilities

As First Team Sport Scientist provide key responsibilities will include advancing and overseeing the delivery of Sport Science across the Club. Monitor and report on training load using GPS, heart rate, wellbeing, performance and fatigue testing. Assist as required in the rehabilitation and conditioning of players with long-term injuries and with physical performance sessions in the gym and on pitch. Collaborate on developing an up to date return to play checklist and lead and promote best practices in data storage and usage across performance disciplines.

Building strong professional working relationships is critical to co-ordinate and advise first team manager and coaches on the scheduling and leading of training throughout the season. Provide support on training and match days and work and mentor any interns/work experience within the department, building relationships with the local University. Collaborate on Sport Science and Strength & Conditioning initiatives to support the ECFC One Team Goal and improve club-wide alignment.

Our ideal candidate will preferably have experience within professional football and have experience leading & managing large groups of players. Candidates will need to experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and also be able to work independently and use their initiative. Candidates must have a degree in the field of Sports Science and/or Strength & Conditioning (MSc preferred) and knowledge and application of GPS Systems within football (STATSports). 

We are also looking for candidates with experience in the design, implementation and monitoring of programmes for professional athletes at elite level. Excellent communication skills both orally and written are critical and an enthusiastic, open minded, critical thinker with a strong work ethic. Prior to commencing work a right to work document(s) must be presented and references and an enhanced DBS Check will need to be undertaken.
