BrentB Preview

Exeter City’s U21 side are looking to continue their impressive start to this season’s Premier League Cup campaign as they head to take on Brentford B on Monday.

The 7pm kick-off is City's fourth match in the group stage, with City having won two and drawn one so far. City opened their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Luton Town at St James Park in late August thanks to Kieran Wilson's goal. This was followed up with another 1-0 win over Brentford B at SJP thanks to Luca Woodhouse's header. Last time out City picked up a strong point at West Brom in a 0-0 draw.

City's assistant manager Kevin Nicholson will be leading the side on Monday that will be looking to take a step closer to qualifying for the knockout stage.

The Premier League Cup continues to serve as a valuable bridge between academy and first-team football for Exeter City. Recent graduates such as Liam Oakes, Tom Dean and Charlie Cummins all benefited from game time in the competition before making their senior debuts.

The match is being played at Wheatsheaf Park in Staines-upon-Thames and fans are encouraged to head down and show their support on the night.

Brentford announced the re-opening of Wheatsheaf Park as the home venue for the club’s B team and under-18s fixtures in October 2023.

The club played their first match in front of supporters at the stadium on 31 October 2023 as the B team faced RC Strasbourg. The young Bees managed to come from behind to claim a 3-2 win on a memorable opening night for the side.

As part of their move to Wheatsheaf Park, Brentford agreed with representatives from Staines Town FC to offer support with local community football initiatives with the help of Brentford FC Community Sports Trust.

From The Dressing Room

Exeter City coach Kevin Nicholson has given his preview ahead of the match.

"Preparations are going well. We will be in on Sunday for the final prep day where we will go through shape where we will bring in some of the under-18s and under-21 lads and then we travel on Monday and it will be a really good test.

"I think they will want to get one over on us. I think it hurt them when we beat them at our place. I really enjoyed that game and the feel of it, and when the under-18s came on we gave it a really good go. It was a really tight hard fought well contested game of football."
