We are delighted to announce the return of academy graduate Harry Kite, who has signed a one-year contract with a club option of a further year, subject to EFL approval.
The 26-year-old midfielder returns to St James Park on a free transfer from Truro City, bringing him back to the club where his football journey began nearly two decades ago.
A familiar face to the Grecian faithful, Harry first joined Exeter City's Academy as an eight-year-old and spent 15 years developing through the ranks before making his senior debut in an EFL Trophy tie against Yeovil Town in 2017.
Known for his work rate, energy and commitment in midfield, Harry went on to establish himself as a key member of City's first-team squad, making 102 appearances across League One, League Two and cup competitions, scoring seven goals along the way.
Among those strikes was one of the finest goals of his career, a spectacular long-range effort against Port Vale in August 2022 that earned the EFL Goal of the Month award before also being voted Exeter City's Goal of the Season.
Following his departure from St James Park at the conclusion of the 2023/24 campaign, Harry gained further experience in the National League and National League South with spells at Yeovil Town, Weston-super-Mare and most recently Truro City.
Now, he returns to his boyhood club as Matt Taylor continues to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Speaking on bringing Harry back to Exeter, City manager Matt Taylor said: "We need a player with Harry's humility, his honesty and his physical attributes. He's a player in the middle of the pitch who's different to what we've already got in the building, and he balances our midfield group really well.
"We've already played against him in pre-season, and I also watched Truro's match against Plymouth specifically to see how he moved and performed. He was excellent in that game. He's come through pre-season in a good physical condition, he's raring to go, he wants to be here, and he wants to make a difference.
"I know there's so much of Harry's game that I can trust as long as we get the right balance around him. I'm really pleased to get him through the door because he'll add something different to this group.
"When Harry was at his absolute best with us, he wasn't just a defensive midfielder. He could break lines with the ball, use it well and chip in with goals. Initially he'll come in and do an important job for the team, but hopefully he'll also help players like Jake Doyle-Hayes play more games, allow Charlie Cummins to get higher up the pitch and give Taylor Perry more opportunities to receive the ball in advanced areas. It gives us really good balance in midfield."
Matt believes Harry's experience, combined with his understanding of the club's values, will make him an important addition both on and off the pitch.
"He has great experience for someone of his age. When I left previously, I genuinely expected Harry to have a long Football League career because he's got some fantastic attributes.
"We're grateful that we're in a position to bring him back. Coming through our Academy means he knows exactly what this football club is about. He understands what it means to represent Exeter City and the community, and he'll set the right example every single day.
"He'll need a little bit of time because he hasn't completed the whole of pre-season with us, but we know that if we can get Harry back to his physical peak, he'll be a very good signing for Exeter City."
Everyone at Exeter City would like to welcome Harry back to St James Park and wishes him every success in red and white once again.
