Women's Match Preview: Lewes (H)

Lewes match preview

Exeter City Women start their home league campaign on Sunday afternoon as they welcome Lewes to Coach Road in a 2pm kick-off.

After a 2-0 opening day win at Cheltenham last weekend, followed by a 3-0 win at Portishead in the League Cup on Thursday, Abbie Britton's side have started their season off to a flyer and will be looking to make it a hat-trick of wins when the Rooks make the trip to Devon.

They too have had a good start to the season, drawing 0-0 with well fancied Watford before beating Fulham in the cup in midweek.

The Grecians won both contests against the Sussex outfit last season, recording a 4-0 win at the Dripping Pan and 1-0 win in Newton Abbot.

The Opposition

Like ourselves, Lewes are a proud supporter and community owned football club and in 2017 became the first club in the world to pay their men's and women's player equally. In July the club announced Emma Byrne as their manager. The former Ireland and Arsenal goalkeeper is a nine time WSL winner, nine time FA Cup winner and a one time Champions League winner and took over from Natalie Lawrence. She is unbeaten in her first two matches in charge.
