Thank you to the Second Year Scholars Departing Exeter City

Graphic saying Thank you and good luck to the scholars leaving Exeter City - Dan Layer, Dylan Shanahan, Santino Ohanaka and Theo Cutler

The Academy can confirm that five second year scholars will depart the club this summer upon the conclusion of their scholarships.

Thank you to Dan Layer, Dylan Shanahan, Kye Cooper, Santino Ohanaka and Theo Cutler, who will be leaving the club. Everyone at Exeter City wishes them the best, on and off the pitch.

Meanwhile, Jake Richards, Kieran Wilson and George Birch have been offered professional contracts, while Liam Oakes signed his first contract a month ago.

Jacca Cavendish has been offered a third year scholarship, with Academy Director Arran Pugh describing Jacca's situation.

"Jacca's been so unfortunate with injuries. Just before he started his scholarship, he did his ACL, and worked incredibly hard to get himself back fit, playing and doing well in the under-18s.

"He's had another injury set-back so we're going to support him with getting himself back fit from that and helping him develop next season as a third year scholar."

On the players who have been released, Arran shared his pride at the men and players they have become.

"The worst part of the job is having to have those conversations with fantastic lads. A massive part of this football club is trying to help develop and support really good young men off the pitch and that is something that continues to bear fruit."

"The current second years who unfortunately haven't made that step are a fantastic group of lads."
Arran Pugh on the released players

"All good, quality football players and I think some of them, had we still been in League Two, may have been in a different position. The standard to now be in a competitive League One team makes it harder to earn that contract.

"With all the boys, every single one of them can be proud of what they've done and we're proud of the part we've played in their journey. We'll do what we can to support them and we're excited to see where they go next."
