Match Preview: Newport County (A) Vertu Trophy

Newport Preview

The Grecians are back on the road on Tuesday night, heading to Rodney Parade to face Newport County in the Vertu Trophy, 7pm.

The match is set up to be a Cup classic, with a 'winner takes all' scenario on the night with all four teams set on three points and only separated by goals scored! Should the match finish a draw, the winner of the penalty shootout will go through.

City head into the match on the back of a run of four games unbeaten after a 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic on Saturday at SJP. Our hosts Newport County suffered a 4-2 defeat to league leaders Walsall on Saturday and currently sit bottom of League Two.

Speaking ahead of the match, manager Gary Caldwell said: "We have to recover from Saturday and be ready to go again for a big match in the Vertu Trophy and get to the next round - it's something we did last year and we want to do again this year."

Safe travels to the Grecians making one of our shorter trips of the season on Tuesday night!
