New competition begins on Sunday - get involved!
Exeter’s first ever futsal league went down to the narrowest of margins, as The Gentleman's Club triumphed to take the title by a +1 goal difference.
They had been leading going into the final round of fixtures, but lost 5-3 to The B Team in their fixture. Newtown then defeated Monks FC 8-1, meaning that either The B Team or Newtown could mathematically take the title with a big enough victory in the final fixture of the season. Newtown won 9-5, but it left them marginally short of the coveted top spot.
And following on from the success of the inaugural league, new season will be starting on Sunday 10th February at St James High School in Summer Lane, Beacon Heath.

The competition has been set up to raise awareness of the benefits of playing futsal as opposed to traditional five-a-side football, and the Football in the Community Charity is looking for more five-a-side teams to join the men’s league in Exeter.
Futsal is a fast, exciting form of indoor football with five players per side and is all about quick, controlled passing and close-range shots. Futsal is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and is the only form of indoor football recognised by FIFA.
“We were delighted with the success of the taster league and are very keen to get the next season up and running,” says Jamie Vittles, the Head of Community. “If you play five-a-side with a group of friends or colleagues come and give futsal a go – you won’t be disappointed.”
All teams registering with the new league will receive free tickets for an Exeter City FC first-team fixture at St James Park. The only requirements for the league is that players need to be over 16 and wear trainers and shin pads, plus a playing strip, and the cost per game is £16.
So get in touch with Jamie Vittles at jamie.vittles@exetercityfc.co.uk if you’re interested in entering your team into the second edition of the league from Sunday 10th February onwards.
