Gosling pleased to be off the mark for Exeter City
Exeter City youngster Jake Gosling scored his first goal for the Grecians as they ran out emphatic 3-0 winners against Northampton Town.
A fantastic performance from the entire squad secured a much-deserved victory against the Cobblers as City continued their promotion charge, and the midfielder’s goal effectively settled the match. But after scoring his first professional goal in red and white, how did it compare to his goal on loan at Dorchester – when he netted an FA Cup winner against Plymouth?
“I just said to the boys, this was better because it’s for the team I play for,” explained Gosling. “The other one was special because it was against Plymouth, but this is what I’ve been dreaming about really – my first goal for Exeter City in the league. I’m just happy it sealed the victory for the team.”
“It’s nice to get off the mark in the Football League. It’s special because it was a really tough game today, and I was glad to seal the victory.”
The youngster put in a very commendable performance as part of a very accomplished display throughout the ranks, but Gosling knows that there is plenty yet to come.
“I was quite happy with my performance, but I know I can play better than that,” he continued. “I always try and look at my game and see how I can improve, and without doubt there’ll be aspects of my game that I’ve got to improve, but I’m reasonably happy with my performance.”
