Grecians defeat Robins in Gloucestershire
Exeter City Ladies recorded a second victory against Cheltenham Town in eight days, triumphing 4-0 in the league fixture after the previous weekend’s FA Women’s Cup win.The Grecians started with a majority of the team that won at Newlands Park the previous weekend, and dominated the first quarter of an hour by playing exclusively in the home team’s half.
Before Exeter took the lead, Courtney Butt had a shot cleared off the line and Kirsty Caunter hit the woodwork. And after forcing three corners in quick succession, Lola Garcia Sanchez headed Caunter’s delivery in at the near post before the half-hour mark.
Tash Knapman continued her hot streak of goalscoring form just five minutes later with a trademark free-kick.
And after the break, Knapman netted her 22nd goal of the season to date by applying the finishing touch to a free-flowing move down the right, with Vicky Barter laying on the assist.
Roles were reversed shortly after as Knapman returned the favour for Barter by providing the assist, allowing the midfielder to put the game beyond any reasonable doubt just past the hour mark.
Exeter had to finish the game a player light, with Corinne Potts leaving the game injured with 15 minutes remaining.
