Midfielder’s goal submitted to the Football League
Arron Davies’ wonder-goal against Scunthorpe in October has been submitted to the Football League as the Exeter City Goal of 2013.
The midfielder’s stunning effort – hit from the best part of 50 yards up at Glanford Park – will now be up against submissions from the other 71 clubs in the Football League, with the overall winner being named at the Football League Awards in March.
After several suggestions were made for a long-list, City supporters then had the chance to vote for their favourite from a shortlist of four.
Davies in fact had two entries – his opener in the Devon Derby against Plymouth Argyle earlier in the same month was also an option. Alan Gow’s delightful chip over Luke McCormick was also on the shortlist.
And Tom Nichols’ rasping effort in our last game of 2013 against neighbours Torquay United made up the quartet.
It was Nichols that pushed Davies closest, but the former Southampton and Yeovil man had a clear lead when the voting was closed on Thursday.
Here is how the voting broke down:
Arron Davies v Plymouth – 7%
Alan Gow v Plymouth – 10%
Arron Davies v Scunthorpe – 48%
Tom Nichols v Torquay – 35%
And here is a reminder of that superb strike…
