Ex-Grecian midfielder selected in star XI
Former Exeter City midfielder Matt Grimes has been named in the PFA’s League 2 Team of the Year as part of the PFA Awards 2015.Grimes, who was at the Grecians’ Academy since the age of 10, broke into Exeter’s first team early in the 2013/14 season. Picking up the club’s Player of the Year award in his maiden season, he began the current campaign in impressive form.
He caught the eye of the international selectors and featured three times for Aidy Boothroyd’s England Under-20 squad during his time with Exeter. After 37 appearances and scoring once in his maiden season, Grimes made 25 appearances in 2014/15 for the Grecians and found the net four times – three of which from direct free-kicks.
