City youngster joins Three Lions squad for two games against the USA
EXETER CITY Academy prospect Ethan Ampadu has been called into the England Under-16 squad for two fixtures against the United States of America in August. The news comes off the back of the recent under-16 training camp that City youngsters Ethan and fellow City youngster Jack Sparkes both attended.
Exeter City Academy manager Simon Hayward said: “We’re very pleased for Ethan after his call-up for the two games against the USA. It was a terrific achievement for the club to have both Ethan and Jack involved in the training camp; I think there are about forty boys currently involved in the England U16 set up and for two of those to be Academy players from Exeter City is very pleasing.
“It’s great news for Ethan that he’ll further his international experience with some more games. Jack is obviously disappointed, but we’re sure that if he keeps up his usual high standards, he will be involved for England again sometime in the near future.
“We got good feedback from the FA staff on both boys - unfortunately Jack was carrying a few little injuries that hampered him during the camp period, and spent all three days of the training camp playing up front when in fact we feel he is more effective in wide areas.
“We have our fingers crossed that he will get another chance in his best position, injury-free, to show what we at Exeter City know he’s capable of.
“Jack has been progressing well with us at the since we’ve returned ahead of the new season, and we’re sure he’ll get plenty of opportunities with the national side in the future if he keeps working hard here at Exeter.”
Ethan will be in action in two matches against the USA at St. George’s Park, the first a 4pm kick-off on Sunday 16th August and the second at 2pm on Wednesday 19th August.
