Joe Southcott to move to Craven Cottage
All Exeter City fans will know of the high-profile transfer of Matt Grimes to Swansea this January, but another former Grecian has moved up in the football world this week.Joe Southcott, former assistant groundsman at Exeter City, has this week moved to Craven Cottage, to be part of the team that looks after the Fulham pitches.
Joe started at Exeter City as a 16-year-old volunteer forking the pitch at half time. It was his ambition to work for the club and our Estates Manager, Clive Pring, encouraged him to go to College to become qualified.
He took this wise advice and at the age of 18, having achieved the necessary qualifications, Joe returned to St James Park as an employee to work with Clive to prepare the pitches (and much more!)
Joe left Exeter City last September to work at West Buckland School. He departed to gain experience and to enhance his knowledge of other sports, as well as considerably reducing his daily commute to work.
But after a few months he realised that football was his passion and that he wanted to specialise in this alone. So Joe has now fulfilled his ambition and is working for Fulham in the Sky Bet Championship. It’s a long way from St James Park, but a fantastic next step in Joe’s career.
Everyone at Exeter City thanks Joe for his work for our club and wishes him every success in the future.
