Cornish trip for Exeter
Exeter City will be sending a squad to play a pre-season friendly against AFC St Austell on Tuesday 28th July, kicking off at 7.30pm.The Lillywhites were crowned as champions of the South West Peninsula League Premier Division at the end of April with three games to spare – a 3-0 win against eventual runners-up Bodmin Town wrapped up the league title. They would ultimately score 103 goals in 36 league fixtures, racking up 93 points.
In a productive last season, AFC St Austell also retained the Cornwall County FA Cup with a 3-0 win against Godolphin Atlantic – they netted 20 goals and conceded just once in five rounds of the competition. Additionally, they were narrowly denied a trip to Wembley as Glossop North End were 2-1 aggregate winners in the semi-final of the FA Vase.
A Grecians XI will now travel for a midweek friendly evening fixture at Poltair Park as both sides look to continue their preparations ahead of the forthcoming 2015/16 campaign.
It becomes the third pre-season game which has been confirmed for Exeter, following news that a Fluminense U19 side will visit St James Park and that City will visit Weston-super-Mare for a friendly.
Further match details for the trip to St Austell, including ticketing, will be announced in due course.
