Olejnik: We want to win it for the fans
Exeter City goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik wants the Grecians to deliver a Devon derby win over Plymouth Argyle on Saturday for the City supporters as well as earn three points.City have endured a difficult start to their League Two campaign after suffering numerous injuries, as well as dropping points despite playing well.
But Olejnik thinks that a win over the Pilgrims could see the Grecians turn their results around and climb up the league table.
He said: “The fans have been amazing this season, despite us not having the best start. We are hoping, with a lot of people coming to the game, that we can create a good atmosphere and win the match for the supporters just like we did last year.”
Bobby also admitted that he and the players share in the fans’ frustration in recent weeks, and have been left scratching their heads after matches at times.
He continued: “It’s been difficult because we’ve been coming in after games and there wasn’t really anything you can say because we’ve played really well and that’s been the most frustrating thing.”
With Argyle coming into the game currently top of the League Two table after winning six of their seven matches, Bobby, who will play his fourth derby against the Pilgrims, thinks that current form won’t play a part in this match.
“In a derby league positions don’t matter; tactics don’t always matter at times.” He said. “It’s all about who wants it more. For us we want to treat it as another game because if you build it up too much it can cause you more harm than good.”
Despite the match being a game of huge pressure for both sides, Bobby admits he is excited about lining up at St James Park at 1pm on Saturday.
“Derby games are always exciting. The kick-off has already been moved forward so that shows what type of game it is.
“They always bring a lot of fans so we are expecting a great atmosphere so I’m looking forward to it.”
