Tis: Players and I have a responsibility ahead of Devon derby

Exeter City boss Paul Tisdale says that his side will “do their very best” to take all three points against Plymouth Argyle this Saturday.

The hotly anticipated derby kicks off at 1pm at St James Park, and the Grecians boss isn’t playing the tie down as his side look to bounce back from defeat at Crewe Alexandra last time out.

Ahead of this weekend’s clash with Plymouth, Tis said: “The players and myself have a responsibility to our supporters for the game regardless of league position.

“There’s three points at stake, but it’s the Devon derby and I’m not going to play that down, it means a lot to a lot of people. We will do our very best.”

City go into the match in search of their third league win of the season as they look to turn their form around, helped by the signing of striker Reuben Reid, as well as key players looking to return from injury over the next couple of weeks.

Despite the Pilgrims making the trip up the A38 currently top of League Two, Tis thinks that the difference in league positions won’t influence the game.

“Every Devon derby I’ve been involved with there has been pressure” he said, “Yes, they are in a far healthier position than we are, but we are only seven games into the season and there’s a long way ahead.”

The Grecians boss also reflected on City’s last derby win over the Pilgrims which saw Ollie Watkins seal the winner in stunning fashion.

Tis said: “I love winning them (the Devon derby.) It’s as simple as that. Last year we won the game and we could not have got a more fairy-tale finish with Ollie Watkins’ goal.”
