Ollie Watkins named EFL Young Player of the Year

City star beats Ryan Ledson and John Swift to top award

Exeter City's Ollie Watkins has been named the EFL Young Player of the Year for the 2016/17 season.

The 21-year-old, who has scored 14 goals and got 12 assists for the Grecians this campaign, picked up the accolade at an awards ceremony on Sunday evening. Ollie was shortlisted for the award with Oxford United's Ryan Ledson and Reading John Swift, but managed to beat off the competition from both players. The award comes with a prestigious list of recent winners that includes Gareth Bale, Nathaniel Clyne and Dele Alli.
