Match preview: City v Barnet

All you need to know about the Grecians match with Barnet on Saturday

29 December 2017

Exeter City will end 2017 with a home match against Barnet.

City go into the match sixth in the table after they dropped out of the automatic promotion places on Boxing Day when their game against Forest Green Rovers was abandoned at half-time with the scores level at 0-0.

However, manager Paul Tisdale is not getting too worried about their position in the table with half of the season still left to play.

"There are 20-plus games to go and it is about an overall points tally and it will be about what we gain from those 20-odd games," said Tis. “We have got a target that we would look to and we need a certain amount of points. So sometimes you have to avoid being too precious about where you sit in the league although it does help a lot with confidence and positivity. However, there is little you can do when your match is abandoned and other teams win. You are incapable of effecting the league.”

Meanwhile Barnet boss Mark McGhee is not looking to make too many changes ahead of their match with City having set on a good formation and formula.

“I think I am getting to a point now where I have a fairly clear picture of most of them,” said McGhee. “Some I think I might have over-estimated what they might do for us and some I might have under-estimated what they might do for us.

“However, now I am getting to the point where I have a measure of them and I can start to feel who are the most important 11 or 12 outfield players are and who should be in the team.

“Then, as we did on Tuesday, we put out a team that is in a shape as simple as it can be and that gets us the strengths in the team that we need defensively – and giving us a chance of punching back – and we did that with a 4-1-4-1.”
