Grecians into last four of Devon St Luke's Bowl
Exeter City made it into the semi-finals of the Devon St Luke’s Bowl on Wednesday night as they beat Willand Rovers 3-1 at Silver Street.
The Grecians took the lead after 11 minutes when Max Smallcombe won possession back in midfield with a crunching tackle before taking the ball to the edge of the box and firing an effort past Willand Rovers keeper Mike Searle into the bottom corner.
Further efforts fell for Matt Jay and Connor Riley-Lowe before Alex Byrne fired home from close range following a good passing move.
That saw City take a 2-0 lead into the break and 10 minutes into the second half they had, all but, made the game safe as Riley-Lowe curled an effort into the corner of the net.
Willand Rovers did pull a goal back with 20 minutes, with a volley from inside the area, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation.
City will face the winners of the match between Cullompton Rangers and Exmouth Town, which is due to be played at Speeds Meadow on Tuesday, January 17.
The other semi-final will be contested between holders Plymouth Parkway and either Tiverton Town or Bideford.
