With just ONE day to go until Matt Taylor's side kick-off the season against Carlisle, ‘The 1000th Goal’ project counts you down to the game with a look back at some of the most iconic goals scored under supporters' ownership.
The 1,000th goal project has been set up as the Trust will more than likely be celebrating reaching 1,000 league goals under supporters ownership this coming season. The tally currently stands at 982 league goals, including play-offs.
Just one more sleep and football is back!
The first match at SJP since the Grecians' emphatic 3-1 win over Lincoln City in the play-offs. Much has changed since then, but one thing that will always remain is a certain solo effort for goal number 980 under the Trust.
It was just two minutes into the second-half of the second-leg in the play-off semi-finals. City were ahead thanks to a superb Jayden Stockley volley in the first half. Lincoln had had a goal disallowed just before half-time and were looking to draw themselves level when Hiram Boateng picked the ball up halfway inside his own half.
City's number 44 proceeded to expertly dribble the ball to the edge of the opposition area, shrugging off a number of defenders in the process, before cutting inside and curling an effort beyond Ryan Allsop and off the post to double the Grecians' advantage.
Ryan Harley would then add a third when he drilled in a trademark long range effort into the top corner, before Matt Green pulled one back for the Imps with 12 minutes remaining. City would then hold on for a second trip to Wembley in as many years.
