With 1931 Fund members pledging another £15,000 to the club, Exeter City today can confirm that 20-year-old Jordan Dyer will wear the famous Number 31 shirt for the coming season.

The 1931 Fund is a group of around 70 supporters who donate £19 a month to help pay the wages of a member of the first team squad. Since the group was formed in 2010, they have raised more than £150,000 for Exeter City.

City manager Matt Taylor said: “I'm really grateful again to the 1931 Fund. Their backing provides useful extra money for the playing budget but also shows how willing our supporters are to actively get behind what we're trying to achieve.

“Jordan, along with a number of our young players last season, performed well in both the Leasing.com Trophy and the Under-23 Premier League Cup and we have high hopes for him this season.”

1931 Fund organiser Alan Crockford said: “I'm delighted that Jordan is going to be our man, representing our members and City fans everywhere in the Number 31 shirt.

"It’s only right this season that we use our members' money to help pay for one of our own academy graduates to get his chance

"We are all so proud of Exeter City and in particular of our supporter ownership and commitment to giving young local lads their chance. We know that our £15,000 is a very small piece in the ECFC jigsaw, but this year in particular it says so much about our club and its ethos."

This year's pledge of £15,000 is on top of £140,000 already paid to Exeter City to help pay for previous number 31s, including current squad members Pierce Sweeney, Jack Sparkes and Noah Smerdon.

Club president and director of football and external affairs Julian Tagg was full of praise for everyone who contributes to the 1931 Fund.

He said: “This is a season when, even by our standards, young players will have a big part to play at Exeter City. I’m delighted that the 1931 Fund have bought into this, and I'm hugely grateful to them for investing into our football club over the past 12 seasons. Their support is an invaluable lift for us all."
