Exeter City Women return to league action this weekend as they look to pick up an important three points in the hunt for the team’s highest ever league finish.
Keynsham Town have had a tough season to date, but go into Sunday’s game buoyed by a win at Maidenhead United last weekend. The K’s have suffered some heavy defeats in 2022, Cardiff City (twice), AFC Bournemouth and the Grecians all scoring six or more against the North Somerset team, however a series of victories against their bottom half of the table rivals sees them clear of relegation danger. For all Town’s troubles on the road, they will go into the fixture on a four-game winning run at the AJN Stadium, beating Larkhall Athletic (twice), Bishops Lydeard and Moneyfields already this season.
Naomi Clipston will be the City defence’s biggest danger on Sunday, she has five goals from seven appearances this season, whilst Gemma McGuiness hit both goals in the team’s win at Maidenhead on Sunday. Town are also set to feature former Arsenal and England International Justine Lorton; she continues to play regular National League Football at forty-eight years of age.
The two teams met on the opening day of the season, Sarah Stacey starring in a seven-goal victory, with three first half goals, as City surged into a six-goal lead at the break.
Abbie Britton and Aaron Wakley’s side will still have the disappointment of the performance at Portishead Town in their thoughts as they head to North Somerset and will be keen to make certain there is no complacency as they aim to kickstart their league campaign after a series of Cup games. With Cardiff City already eight points clear and yet to drop a point, the Grecians will know that nothing less than three points will help them keep pace with the South Wales side heading into 2023.
