📝 Away Day Guide: Newport County

All you need to know for our trip to South Wales

30 March 2022

City are back on the road on Saturday as we make the journey to South Wales to take on promotion rivals Newport County with a BIG three points on the line.

If you’re one of the lucky 1,031 making the short trip to Wales on Saturday, here is a handy guide to Rodney Parade.

The Ground

  • Name: Rodney Parade
  • Capacity: 8,700 (7,850 for football)
  • Year opened: 1877
  • Record Attendance: 9,836 (vs Spurs, FA Cup Third Round 2018)
  • Address: Rodney Road, Newport, South Wales, NP19 0UU

Owned by the Welsh Rugby Union, County moved into the multi-purpose Rodney Parade in 2012 and groundshare with Newport Gwent Dragons and Newport RFC.

Newport Stadium Social.JPG

The second oldest sports venue in the Football League (after Preston’s Deepdale), in the 1800’s the Parade was the Welsh Rugby home ground- and the stadium has hosted South Africa and New Zealand in Rugby Union matches early in the 20th Century.

In 2007 plans were drawn up and accepted to extend the stadium to 15,000 capacity though the capacity remains just under 9,000.

Match Tickets

ALL tickets for City's trip to Newport County on Saturday April 2, 3pm sold out on March 9!

Getting to Rodney Parade

By Road

The quickest route to get to Rodney Parade from Exeter sees you follow the M5 north before joining the M49 near Bristol which will take you onto the M4. You’ll then cross over the River Severn and into Wales where you need to continue along the M4 before taking the exit for the B4596.

Continue along this road before turning left onto Rodney Road and you’ll find the stadium further along that road. There are several public car parks in the city centre within a short walking distance of Rodney Parade. There is also plenty of parking on the streets near the stadium but please be aware of local parking restrictions

BY RAIL

You can take the 10:43am direct train from Exeter St David’s which will get you to Newport for 13:07pm.

These other services are available:
