We are delighted to announce that Exeter City Women will play up to four matches at St James Park this season, as the club continues its commitment to the women’s game.
Two fixtures have already been pencilled in, with the first against Moneyfields on Sunday, September 24, 2pm.
Maidenhead United will be the visitors on Sunday March 10, 2pm, as part of City’s Her Game Too weekend, with the men hosting Bolton Wanderers the day before.
With the women’s game thrust into the spotlight this summer with Lionesses narrowly missing out on glory at the FIFA World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, there is no better time to get behind your Grecian women as they set their sights on their own silverware in the FA Women’s National League South West Division One campaign. The Grecians began the season with a 5-1 win at Bridgwater on Sunday.
Exeter City Women have grown spectacularly over the last few years, and while they were denied the league title on goal difference last season, attendances have blitzed previous national records at St James Park. Just shy of 3,000 people watched their win over Portishead last season, just months after 2,700 attended the match against Bournemouth.
In 2021, a Devon Cup tie against Plymouth saw 1,300 attend – a number almost identical to that weeks Champions League match between Chelsea and Wolfsburg, proving there is an appetite for women’s football in the South West.
Should the Grecians be drawn at home in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup, there is also the possibility of playing this fixture at SJP, pitch conditions dependent, with the option being explored another match before the end of the 2023/24 season.
