Gary Caldwell on defeat to Northampton

Gary Caldwell has given his thoughts as Exeter City suffered a 2-0 defeat at Northampton Town on Saturday afternoon.

Two goals in the first 16 minutes decided the game, with the Grecians unable to get going until deep into the second half, where Ethan Brierley came closest to finding the back of the net.

"The game was over before it even got started," Caldwell said after the defeat,

"We started really poorly after defending so well on Tuesday night and gave two really bad goals away. You give yourself a mountain to climb and after that it took us too long to get going.

"In the second half we created some good opportunities but we didn't have enough in the final third to turn them into chances. I think it shows the Saturday/Tuesday/Saturday and you need the physicality to play, recover and play again, and we were not ready today to play at a level we needed to win."
