George Birch on extending his contract until 2028

Shining so far in the 2026/27 season, Exeter City Academy graduate George Birch has expressed his delight following the news of a contract extension that will keep him at St James Park until 2028.

Speaking after putting pen to paper on the fresh deal, George said: "It feels amazing to know that I'll be here for the coming years. It was a really easy decision for me to make; it's a club that has always believed in me all the way from youth until now, so yeah, an easy decision."

After a strong start to the current campaign, George was handed his full league debut at the start of the month and has remained in the team since. "The manager and the coaches just want me to stay at the standard that we have set at the moment, and they've said that if I show myself physically then my quality will come through naturally."

Another name in a long line of City Academy graduates, George shared some of the struggles he faced to get where he is today: "I've found it tough in the past when I've been injured, and then I struggled to get into the team last season. It feels like now my hard work has started to pay off."

Reflecting on his journey so far, George shared words of encouragement from what he's learned so far: "It's important to have a drive to keep improving and showing why you should be in the team, don't let it get to you. If you are injured, just dig deep, keep going and then you know you'll get your chance eventually."
