Luca Woodhouse' strike from the edge of the box secured a late point for the Grecians, continuing the young player's fine run of form in his first season at City.
Will Keane cancelled out Pierce Sweeney's opener right before half-time, altering the momentum of the game with seconds left until the break.
"Obviously it's disappointing to concede that close to half-time, we should have managed the game better. But, we showed a good reaction to get the point and that's the most important thing."
A first half of the season that saw the Grecians typically struggling to pick up points away from home, Woodhouse is keen for the team to put on a better show on the road in 2026.
"We're all feeling good, feeling confident. We want our away form to pick up, and that's exactly what we've done."
With 11 minutes of stoppage time added on after the 90, Woodhouse would find himself on the edge of the Reading penalty area in the 93rd minute before letting fly a fine strike to level the game up late on.
"I found myself high up the pitch, I was thinking - what am I doing here!?"
"The ball dropped to me from a cross, and then I hit it and yeah, went in the back of the net and I was buzzing!"
