Exeter City U21 will begin their Premier League Cup campaign on Tuesday night as Luton Town U21 make the journey to St James Park for a 7pm kick-off.
The club return to the competition for another season and will also face Brentford and West Bromwich Albion in the group stages before the end of the year, City's U21s made it to the knockout stages last time out before suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Brentford.
The Premier League Cup has been a useful platform in the past, allowing a transition between academy and first team football for many young players, with players like Liam Oakes, Tom Dean and Charlie Cummins having all benefitted from game time in the competition.
From The Dressing Room
Dan Green and Charlie Cummins have spoken ahead our competition opener.
Dan Green: "We are all really excited for this fantastic opportunity. Everyone really enjoyed it last year and the new group are looking forward to going and hopefully replicating that success and going one better.
"We are trying something new this year with different coaches leading different games. I'll lead two, with David Perkins and Kevin Nicholson leading two each as well, so that the players become more familiar with each of us and get a different flavour of how we coach.
"These games are always quite difficult to prepare for as we don't really know what kind of team Luton will bring."
Charlie Cummins: "I learnt a lot from it last year and thought we did really well, but looking at the team this year I feel like we can and do the same again. The competition sets you up really well for first team football, and it gives anyone the opportunity to prove themselves to the manager that they are ready to make the step up.
"You never know what to expect from games, so you just have to be certain of your own game plan and make sure you are ready."
