Exeter City manager Matt Taylor has given his thought ahead of Monday night's season opener down the A38 at Home Park.
The Grecians start the new campaign in Carabao Cup action against local rivals Plymouth Argyle on Monday - a fixture that was played in the league only a couple of months ago.
Speaking ahead of the 8pm kick-off Matt said: "We are feeling good about it. We've still got a few days training before Monday night comes around. I've sat here in the last couple of weeks and said the first fixture will come around pretty quickly and it has done, and pre-season is now finished.
"We've worked towards something. We're still growing and evolving as a team, let alone a Football Club, but I feel we're moving in the right direction, and Monday night will be another marker to see where we are at."
The match will take place against the backdrop of a sold out away end, packed strong with 1700 Grecians and is live on Sky Sports.
"It's always going to be an atmosphere of a certain type in a Devon derby, added Matt." The fact that it's an evening kick-off, and is live on Sky Sports adds a little bit extra to it. And the fact that it's our first competitive game of the season and it's a standout draw in the competition. So a lot of eyes elsewhere will be on on Devon. We always hope we represent ourselves in the best possible way.
"I know the players are looking forward to it and want to give the best account of themselves, and that's what we'll be able to do."
When asked about how much scouting the analysis team can do this early into a new season, Matt said: "There is always a little bit of unknown, because there might still be movement in the next few days in terms of players in and players out, and for ourselves as well. I was at their game on Saturday before getting back slightly later for our game. We watched them the week before against Truro as well. They're being pretty consistent throughout pre-season - similar to ourselves in the last couple of games. So I think both teams will probably have a bit of a feel or a bit of a handle on what to expect from the opposition."
