Matt Taylor was re-appointed as permanent first-team manager of Exeter City in May 2026.

Matt joined Exeter City as a player in 2006 and went on to become club captain. He made 160 appearances for the Grecians between then and 2011 before he returned in 2016 in a coaching capacity and was appointed as Under-23s manager. 

On 1st June 2018, Matt was appointed as first-team manager following the departure of Paul Tisdale and won automatic promotion to League One after finishing as runners-up in the 2021/22 League Two campaign.

After a strong start to proceedings in the 2022/23 season, Matt left St James Park for a management opportunity at Championship side Rotherham United before returning in March 2026 initially in an interim basis following Gary Caldwell's departure. Matt was re-appointed as permanent first-team manager of The Grecians in May 2026 as the team prepared for the 26/27 EFL Sky Bet League Two season.
