Defender Ed James signed his first professional contract with Exeter City in the 2022/23 season.

After rising through the ranks of the City academy, Ed made his first-team debut in the 2022/23 EFL Trophy campaign with his league debut coming only two weeks later. Ed experienced loan spells in the second half of the season with Weymouth and Tiverton Town before signing his first professional contract with the Grecians in March 2023.

The following two seasons saw Ed loaned to Weston-super-Mare, Dorchester, Yeovil Town and Bath City during which time he was called up to represent Wales Under-21. Loan moves at the start of the 2025/26 season to Chippenham Town and Torquay United were both hampered with injury, however Ed made his surprise full league debut for the Grecians in April 2026 and became a mainstay in the City defence for the remainder of the campaign.

Ed signed a contract extension ahead of the 2026/27 season and continues to represent Wales Under-21.
